The international wrestling tournament of World Champion Mukhran Vakhtangadze was competed in Greco-Roman wrestling between juniors in Batumi, Georgia from May 12-14, 2017.
Competed in Batumi Sport School, the event was held in accordance with the UWW Regulations and in 46-50, 55, 60, 66, 74, 84, 96 and 96-120 kg weight divisions.
A total fourteen young Greco-Roman athletes represented the Islamic Republic of Iran and managed to bring home 10 medals including three gold and three silver trophies.
Iran’s Keramat Abdevali and his compatriot Hamed Tab borth reached finals of 60-kilogram group with the former winning the title and the latter standing on the second podium. Iran’s other wrestler in the same category, Hosseinvand, only managed to rank fifth overall and fell short of medals.
At 74kg weight group, Moahmmad Shorbi blanked Azerbaijani, Georgian and Russian wrestlers before suffering a defeat to an opponent from Russia. He later overcame an Armenian rival to secure a bronze medal.
On the second day of the international tournament, Amin Kaviannejad (66kg) and Amin Mirzadeh (120kg) snatched gold while Meysam Delkhah (55kg) and Mahdi Bali (84kg) added two silvers to Iran’s tally of medals. Additionally, Mohammad Javad Rezaei (55kg), Arman Alizadeh Abdevali (84kg) and Hajipour (120kg) claimed three more bronze medals for the Iranian squad.
